Pastoral Sabbatical
Our lead pastor, Chris Davis, will be taking a sabbatical starting in May and returning mid-August 2024.
From Pastor Chris
Dear Church Family,
It was nearly 8 years ago we moved to San Francisco with a great deal of anticipation of all God would do. Through many challenges and joys, we’ve seen God grow His church. We’ve grown in gospel fluency, we’ve grown in service to our community, we’ve grown in diversity, and we’ve grown in number. We’ve made room to see more people connected to Jesus and one another. We’ve navigated the transience of one of the most expensive cities in the country. We’ve endured a global pandemic, personnel changes and facility challenges. Yet, God has been incredibly faithful to our church community.
We often hear how “welcoming” and “hospitable” our church family is! Undoubtedly, that’s been because so many of you have consistently shown up and engaged others. As I begin my first ever sabbatical, I’m confident our community will continue to welcome others in with open arms. A number of people have asked, “What can we do to help?” One of our primary needs over the next several months is your consistent presence. We need you to show up, to serve, and to be thoughtful about who you might invite into our community as we grow in grace together. We also need continued generosity! The summer months tend to be lean months. So, consider setting up a recurring contribution as we continue kingdom work in the city.
I’m excited for an extended season of rest and I’m incredibly grateful for our team for all their work in my absence. Please pray for our family and we look forward to seeing you soon!
With Joy in Christ,
Chris Davis
FAQ
What is a pastoral sabbatical?
A pastoral sabbatical is a designated time away from ministry obligations with the purpose of rest and rejuvenation. During this time, pastors are given paid leave with the hopes of being refreshed and allowed the time and space for spiritual, emotional, physical, mental and relational renewal. Sabbaticals help prevent burnout by allowing pastors to lay down the burdens of ministry and reshape rhythms that will allow them to press more deeply into God’s grace.
