Our Church Covenant
Christ is the mediator of a new covenant, so that those who are called may receive the promised eternal inheritance. Hebrews 9:15
Jonathan made a covenant with David, because he loved him as his own soul. 1 Samuel 18:3
God has made us competent to be ministers of a new covenant. 2 Corinthians 3:6
Having been led by the Spirit of God to receive the Lord Jesus Christ as our Savior, and having been baptized in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, we do now, in the presence of God, most solemnly and joyfully enter into covenant with one another as one body in Christ.
We aim, with the help of the Holy Spirit, to live in felt union with Christ. We will worship the Lord on his day, sing heartily in his praise, receive his Word with gratitude and welcome his presence according to the gospel. We will keep a daily, personal walk with the Lord, maintain family prayers, and raise our children to love him and his church.
We promise, with the help of the Holy Spirit, to walk in glad love for one another. We will strive together to grow in holiness, knowledge and wisdom. Shunning all gossip and slander, we will honor and comfort one another. We will pray for one another and help one another in distress. We will cultivate sympathy in feeling and courtesy in speech, taking offense slowly and reconciling quickly. We will esteem our church leaders out of reverence for Christ and honor the discipline of our church. We will rejoice in the success of all Christ-honoring churches.
We pledge, with the help of the Holy Spirit, to establish a bold witness to our generation. We will pray for and seek the salvation of all around us, to the ends of the earth. We will be faithful in our daily commitments and exemplary in our conduct. We will abstain from all activity inconsistent with a Christian witness. We will promote the progress of this church and contribute to its ministry with cheerful and regular financial support. If we serve the Lord elsewhere, we will give to our church our first and our best. Trusting in our all-sufficient Savior Jesus Christ, who loved us and gave himself for us, we now give ourselves to the sacred ministry of Redemption SF. May Jesus Christ be praised!
As a member, what am I committing to?
I am a Christian who has been saved from my sins by the grace of Jesus Christ. I have been, or intend to be, baptized to give testimony of my identification with the body of Christ and obedience to the Scriptures.
I have read and understand the Redemption’s doctrinal statement and biblical convictions (church discipline, pastor/elder-led church government, divorce and remarriage, and open-handed issues). I agree not to be divisive on these issues. I also understand the importance of preserving unity and peace and will be diligent to do so. (Heb. 13:7; Eph. 4:1-3)
I will endeavor to maintain a close relationship with the Lord through regular personal Bible reading, prayer, fellowship and practice of the other spiritual disciplines. I commit to using the spiritual gift(s) God has given me for the building up of the church, both at Redemption Church and universally. (1Peter 4:10-11; Rom. 12:1-8; 1Cor. 12:7-13)
My commitment to Christ will be evident through my regular participation in the corporate worship services and have consistent involvement in a community group. (Psalms 119:97, 105; Acts 2:42-47; Heb. 10:23-25)
I will strive to properly manage the resources God has given me, including my time, gifts and talents, attitudes, finances and possessions. (Eph. 5:15-18; Rom. 12:1-2; Eph. 4:1-16; Gal. 5:22-26; Prov. 3:9-10) This includes regular giving to Redemption Church that is both sacrificial and cheerful. (2Cor. 8-9)
I commit to following the biblical procedures of church discipline and submitting myself to discipline if the need should ever arise. (Matt. 18:15-17; Gal. 6:1-5)
I commit to pursuing unity with every brother and sister at Redemption Church through the bond of peace, that is Christ, with humility, godliness and biblical confrontation when necessary. (Eph. 4:3; Matt. 18:15-20)
I commit to submit myself to the authority of the Scriptures as the final arbiter on all issues. (Psalm 119; 2Tim. 3:16-17)
I understand that this covenant expresses my desire to be in covenant relationships with the other believers and leadership of Redemption Church. My responsibility will be to notify the Redemption Church leadership if at any time I can no longer commit to this covenant, or if I have any questions, comments, or concerns regarding Redemption Church.
I understand that by submitting my name and information in the fields below, I am agreeing to the above statements and will do my best to remain committed to upholding my membership covenant.
