Scripture Reading: Matthew 6:25-34
One of the effects of sin on every person is that we all think we know our needs in life more than the God who created us. It’s precisely why so many of us are so anxious, stressed out, and tired in life—because we feel like we have needs that God either can’t or won’t meet, so we put it on ourselves to meet them ourselves. Whether it’s in our striving to get more money, more love, or more power and control over our lives and future, we tire ourselves out trying to get all the things and people we think we need.
What freedom and peace are we actually forfeiting when we live in this way? What if, instead of chasing after the things we think we need, we actually allowed the God that created us and knows us best to determine our needs, and going beyond that, we actually trusted in Him daily to provide for those needs? The paradox of the Christian life is that the less we think about our own lives and needs, the more we start to live and experience satisfaction. Because the more we seek God and the things that God cares about, the more God promises to provide for us beyond what we could imagine (Matt. 6:33).
Do you trust that God cares for you and knows how to care for you even better than you can care for yourself? Are you currently chasing after a life and after things that God would want for you, or are you only chasing after things that you want? Spend some time considering the grace and generosity that God has poured out in your past, and pray for a deeper trust that He will provide for your every need going forward.
